America and Britain would have stood to benefit, but I'm not sure that Israel would have had a reason to favor the training of Islamic militants who would naturally consider Israel a key enemy.Certainly, Pakistan had a prime motivation to indoctrinate the Pashtun militants with as much fanatical fundamentalist Islam as possible, because Pakistan's goal has always been to suppress Pashtun ethnic nationalism (which poses a separatist threat to Pakistan) using pan-Islamist ideology as a glue (ie. all Muslims united under one banner against the infidel - therefore no need for internal ethnic separatism)The Pakistanis took full advantage of the war against Moscow to give maximum support to hateful rabid fanaticism to suppress local ethnic problems, while spinning it to Washington, London, etc as a better way to defeat the Soviets.
