The whole "going up and buying a girl a drink" thing isn't even done any more. It reeks of creepy and desperate, no matter who you are, and usually the girl you want is in the protective group of her friends, who will stare you down if you try and talk to her. The best thing to do, if you're trying to break the ice, is to go up to the bar to get another drink while her drink is being poured. If you get brief eye contact with her and she gives you a little smile, tell the bartender that they can put her drink on your tab ("if that's all right with you?"). 9 times out of 10 she'll say yes, thank you, and then introduce herself.?
